Janco Study Shows Microsoft Flops and Time Warner Makes Fatal
Strategic Error by Killing Netscape
The Browser and Operating System Market Share White Paper has just
been released by Janco Associates..
Park City,
UT –
Janco Browser and Operating System Market Share White
Paper shows that Microsoft has lost almost 25% of the browser market in
a little over 3 years. At the same time in almost 2 years
Microsoft's Vista OS has less than 15% of the Market. At to that
the abandonment of Netscape by Time-Warner while they still have over
10% of the market brings into question the ability of large
multi-billion dollar corporations to manage technological innovation. Victor Janulaitis, the CEO of Janco said, “With
the abandonment of Netscape by AOL and the release by Microsoft of Vista Service Pack 1
have shown that large corporations can not drive users. Rather
users will go in the direction that they feel will make them more
productive.”
The summary findings in Janco's August 2008
Browser and OS Market Share White Paper are:
-
Firefox’s market share
now is 18.94% versus 16.03% in August 2007
-
IE’s market share is 58.50% versus 64.48% in August
2007 and 82.99% in August 2005
-
Netscape’s market share has remained above 10% (11.63%)
even with the abandonment by Time-Warner (AOL).
-
Google Desktop is gaining in popularity and now
commands 4.01% of the market
-
Microsoft’s Vista continues to have a slow acceptance
and is on approximately 14.94% of internet connected desktops.
